In the falling snow, Ben and Leslie listen as Ethel reads Leslie’s own statement revealing that she too is madly in love with Mr. Leslie grabs Ethel and has her come with her to see Ben who is waiting for her at her house. When Leslie has court stenographer Ethel Beavers ( Helen Slayton-Hughes) read her the transcript, she hears that Ben admits to Chris that it was all worth it because of how much he loves Leslie. Although Chris is only doing his job, Ben is still his best friend and he is so happy he found Leslie. Leslie is devastated as is Chris, but Chris encourages her to read the transcript of Ben's resignation meeting with Chris. He wants Leslie to continue her campaign and if he takes full responsibility for all the misdoings, she can proceed. In the end, Ben decides that it’s time he resigns his position. He is simultaneously happy for them as he is infuriated that he has to launch a full investigation and put Leslie on trial for ethics. Ben knows the risks but happily accepts as the two fall into each other’s arms in the smallest park.Įven though Leslie and Ben are now in the full throes of a relationship, they have to come clean to Chris. At the last moment, she offers the alternative which is to just say “screw it” and have a real relationship, consequences be damned. Leslie requests for Ben to meet her at the smallest park to apologize. Leslie, who refuses to accept that they can’t work together, throws them into a project of building the smallest park in Indiana in a parking lot where phone booths used to stand.įollowing one too many tense moments, Leslie finally realizes she has to stop bulldozing Ben and give in to his request as she can’t bear to hurt him anymore. Ben sadly requests that they try to have as little contact as possible because it hurts too much. The problem is, their feelings are so deep that being around each other is painful. As they go to leave, they're approached by Secret Service agents - indicating that either Ben or Leslie is either the President or Vice President of the United States (a question Schur has left completely open-ended).After deciding to put their relationship on hold at the end of Season three so Leslie could run for City Council without any skeletons in her closet, the two have been trying their best to work together cordially. In 2048, we visit Ben and Leslie one last time as they attend Jerry's funeral. But that's still not the end of Leslie's story. Ten years later, in 2035, we see Leslie, who has served as Indiana's governor for two terms, accept a special honor from Indiana University - though unfortunately for Leslie, she ends up lending her name to a library, which she hates. After bringing her back to the Parks department in 2025 to reunite with her beloved friends, including Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) and Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe), Ben tells the entire room Leslie will run for governor, much to her surprise. Though Leslie wants to debate which one of them should run using reason and logic, Ben knows best. It's based around the idea of failure, and uses Tom's friends as "personality types" that tell readers how they'll either fail or succeed (except for the "Jerrys," who will definitely fail).ĭuring their time in Washington, D.C., Ben and Leslie are thriving - Leslie has even achieved her lifelong dream of becoming friends with Joe Biden - but when they're separately approached to run as the Democratic governor of Indiana, they find themselves at a serious crossroads. He ends up writing a self-help book that becomes a bestseller. Tom must find a new venture to dive head-first into - and luckily, he has both his wife Lucy (Natalie Morales) at his side and a fresh idea up his sleeve. However, when Donna finds out that Joe's school has made major budget cuts - including, somehow, the entire math department - she uses the money she would have spent on their trip to set up a foundation, "Teach Yo Self," with the help of her longtime friend April Ludgate ( Aubrey Plaza).Īs for Tom, his restaurant empire seems stable enough at first, but after a huge economic recession, the enterprising entrepreneur goes bankrupt. After moving to Seattle to become a successful real estate agent with her loving husband Joe (Keegan-Michael Key), Donna relishes in planning extravagant outings for the two of them year after year. When Chris Traeger left Indiana to carve a new life for himself in Michigan, the men of Pawnee's Parks Department gave him a farewell card.
